Electro

This is why deadmau5 is not just a producer, but in my opinion, one of the musical geniuses of our current time. At least in electro.

I've filed this under electro, but in reality I can't justify putting this into any category! It's just so fricken original. It's analogue and digital coming together in a driving, house-destroying, laser-gun shooting build-up and explosion.

Not everyone will get this track, but I think the connoisseur of electronically produced music will sit back much like a classical composer listening to a legendary opera and nod their head knowingly.

Is this the track of 2010? I can't believe I'm saying that so early in the year.

The novice DJ will use this as the first track of their demo CD. The more skilled entertainer will use the drumroll beginning of this track in ways that (I hope) will make crowds stand rigid, raise their hands in realisation and scream. Dramatic description much? This deadmau5 piece deserves it.

I can't stop listening to this one! I love the lyrics, it's different and funky and moves at a nice pace.

I heard this on an MOS compilation and had to wait a while before it was released (I hate that about MOS compilations; they're mixed like catalogues now, trimmed of all breakdowns, mixes and blends to fit 50 songs on one disc, then you go looking for the songs and you can't get them yet).

This is a little bit more of a listen-on-your-ipod track than a party starter, but if the crowd recognises this song, you'll get a fair few cheers when they hear "ex-nay on the bullshit, man". A tough one to mix though, so be warned.

Cosmic Girl - Mike Candys & Christopher S Horny Remix

If there are tracks that mixes sexy with fidget, then this has to be one of them. A good track to introduce some electro/fidget into a set that is a little more accessible and fun.

Not a lot to this song, but it doesn't try to be that sophisticated, just a fun dance tune, and I guess that's why I bought this.

Keep this one up the front of the playlist for the masses.

Ease The Pressure (Rocket Pimp Remix)

A good party starter. I think they should have left out the piano sample and and yeah-yeah hoo-hoo stuff. I feel it adds too much cheese to this track, but the rest of it is down and dirty. Very anthem! Very trashy and fun.

This will make a good party starter; played as the first track to start a set. Something the get everyone's attention, after the previous crap DJ has just left the stage.

Raw Power [Calvertron Rip Up]

A good combination of rock and heavy electro. WARNING: playing while driving may increase weight of foot on accelerator by 5%.

I found this while searching for something by Calvertron. First heard this guy mix on Hatiras.com and his stuff is disgusting! Awesome!

San Francisco Rain [Chris Lake Remix]

I originally found this on a Hatiras Presents mix, then found it on YouTube, and it took a while to come out, but I finally got it.

Again, a listening song rather than a club song, this is a really nice track. Mooli's vocals are strange and soothing. Great lyrics!

Ghosts 'n' Stuff

That's the funny thing about some vocal remixes. They can go one of two ways: complete stuff a perfectly good track, or make a great track even better. Deadmau5's Ghost 'n' Stuff featured in more than one MOS release, so it has stood easily on it's own. But the addition of vocals by Rob Swire has made this an accessible dance hit.

And for once I'm not really phased that Nova 969 are frashing this track repeatedly. It's plainly a good song! Nothing wrong with an accessible sound that everyone can enjoy.

The combination of high and low vocals in the chorus (of which I still can't quite make out what he's saying) really grabs me. And either that high pitch is a great filter or his head exploded soon after recording due to high pressure in the veins popping out his temples!

One of the better popular tracks I've heard in 2009.

UFO [K-Hole Riddim]

Now this nasty little piece by Jack Beats got my attention. Idon't usually like the spoken word sample stuff, but this was just too hectic to turn down.

It's not something I'd crack out and play at a club. Not the most accessible track for dancing minions.

But this is definitely something I'd gather a few mates around a stereo for, or in the car with my girlfriends new car stereo system, and say "Check this out!".

Open Up Your Arms [Original Mix]

I found this little beauty after I listened to a Hatiras Presents mix of Dabruck & Klein. I didn't hear this particular track, but their mix made me want to find more tracks they were involved in. I guess I wouldn't have found this little electro morsel if I hadn't done a little curious poking around.

I did a search on trackitdown.net for these guys and I found this song. I was drawn to it even more so because I saw who was featured in the artist, and my favourite track of 2009 is a Stafford track.

The sound sums up what I'm looking for in a track: dirty and rough, then light and symbolic. A top purchase late in 2009.
